Greetings from me, Conrad Uno.
Egg Studios has been my personal studio since 1980. That's a long time.
And its been a blast, but as of Aug. 1 2017 I am retired.
the studio is now closed, the gear dispersed, and you can find me at the ballpark
or on the golf course.
so, if you missed it I'm sorry to hear that. But there is no more time to be booked.
Below here you will find the web site just as it was when it became obsolete.
Greetings from me, Conrad Uno.
Egg Studios is my personal studio.
boasting the Ultimate in Analog recording..... 2" 16 track.
Or, of course, we can use "fake tape"and just cut the tracks Digitally. That's fun too and costs a little less.
Or, we can combine, mix, and match analog and digital, as need be.
Egg also features the sound of a vintage recording console. Custom built in the 1960's for Stax Studios in Memphis, our Spectrasonics console is a gem. It has recently been tenderly reconditioned from the bottom up by Mr. Phillip Taylor and is making great recordings again.
Egg is a comfy, funky, infamous, garage/basement studio. It's real and it's fast and you can afford it ! I've recorded millions of demos here in my basement and some great albums also. Most bands record fairly live basic tracks then overdub as needed.
If you record at Egg, unless you have made other arrangements, you are recording with me. That means I am your engineer and will help with production when the need arises. This help is simply a bonus of recording at Egg and is included in the regular rates.
An hour at Egg will cost you $40 (two hour minimum)
Tape Costs are Extra, of course.
You can keep tape costs to a minimum by renting tape from me for $50 per reel.
Fine Print: the Egg day is from Noon to 10 pm. Weekend dates booked at Day Rate only. Tape rental includes archiving tracks to digital multi-track, stored on DVD. Using other engineer/producer types is fine but requires special arrangements.

What are folks saying about the egg experience?..... Testimonials
OK, sure, it's true that some great albums have been recorded here!
But you shouldn't come to Egg just because I did the first Presidents album, or because you love the albums by the Young Fresh Fellows, or the Fastbacks, or Mudhoney, or Gas Huffer, or the Supersuckers, or the Devil Dogs, or the Mono Men, or Snitches Get Stitches, or the Posies, or Zeke, or the Briefs, or Smoosh, or Ruby Dee and the Snakehandlers, Taco Cat, etc., etc., that were recorded here.
You should come to Egg because you want to have a fun, relaxed, high quality, low stress, productive recording experience that doesn't cost you arms and legs and a years worth of whiskey.
I have decent gear, shit loads of experience, and truly believe that recording should be easy and fun !
Please give me a holler and tell me about your band or project, or to ask any questions you might have about me, or Egg, or recording in general.
(but please don't offer to re-design my web site for me, I like it this way:)
Here are some links to more Egg related information.

Egg is primarily an Analog recording facility.
We use 2" Quantegy GP9, 499, or 456 recording tape.
Quantegy, the worlds only major supplier of quality analog tape recently went through bankruptcy.
The good news is that, even though Quantegy went down, there is high quality recording tape still being manufactured in the world.
(The bad news is that the prices have gone up.)
Egg does have tape!
For lower to medium budget projects, demos, etc., we will be happy to rent you tape, and archive your tracks onto DVD once your use of the tape is complete. (i.e.-mixed and approved for mastering) The tape we rent is high quality, new or nearly new, and will not be worn out in any way. We also can sell you slightly used reels at a reduced price. For higher budget projects we can sell you new tape, please call and ask about availability and price ahead of time. thanks.
Tape Rental.......$50 per reel (includes archiving)
Used tape for sale........price will vary but will be between $75 and $150
New tape for sale.........the new price for a reel of 2" tape is about $265 plus tax.
We also have blank CDR's, 1/4" analog, DAT, and cassette tape in stock.
Our analog recorder is an Otari MTR 90 MkIII- 2" 16 track recorder.
It is awesome!
(We also have two Tascam MSR-16, 1/2" 16 track recorders, one with dolby "S" noise reduction and one with dbx.
We don't record on them anymore but they are here if needed for playback of old tapes, etc.)
For your digital recording needs we have the MOTU 2408 MK III / Mac G5 /
Digital Performer system.
(comparable to and compatable with Pro Tools)
It will synch to the Analog tape decks, making it easy to bring tracks in from other studios, send tracks out to other studios, edit tracks, and phutz around, etc. (We also have 16 tracks of Tascam DA-88 digital recording which will sync to the analog and/or MOTU if needed)
Mic pre-amps are Neve, Manley, Mackie, and the special sound of our Spectrasonics Console (custom built for Stax Studios in Memphis around 1964). We have a variety of Microphones, of course, including the lovely and talented Soundeluxe U-95 tube, Neuman U-87, Royer R-122 Ribbon, 414's, 421's, AT-4033, Sanken CU-31's, RE-20, etc. Amongst our outboard gear we boast a Manley Electro optical tube limiter/compressor, a Drawmer tube EQ, an Empirical Labs Distressor, plus plenty of the usual squeezers and goop machines. We mix to a 1/4" Studer B67 (analog half track) and/or directly to the hard drive of our Alesis MasterLink. Using the MasterLink makes it extremely easy and fast to burn you a reference CD of your session if you like, and/or a 24 bit CD-rom which can be used for mastering or as a master backup.
We monitor with Tannoy's legendary "Little Reds" (SRM 12B's), NS 10's, and EV S-40's. We are also proud to supply cable TV/VCR, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, playstation 1, mini ping pong table, and toilet.
The Egg Studios day rate is $350 per day. The hourly rate is $40 per hour.
These rates include Conrad Uno as engineer/co-producer.
Our day rate is based on a maximum use of from Noon to 10pm, due to our residential situation.
Weekends are booked at day rate only. Weekdays can be booked by the day or by the hour.
We will probably ask for a deposit to hold any dates booked.
(If you don't show up, we use your deposit to buy Tequila)
Like all studios we do have a few oddball rules.
For example, there is no smoking in the studio (only outside in the driveway).
There are some minor parking restrictions, as a courtesy to our neighbors.
Our day ends at 10pm.
Whiskey is OK.
not to mention some of our other recent projects for.......

Tell us about your Band/Project by typing in this handy box! Is there a label? Is there a producer? What's the budget? How much time are you looking for? Approximately when would you like to record? Do weekdays work for you or do you need weekends? How experienced/inexperienced at recording are you? Have you recorded at Egg before? etc.
Here is how the story goes. Paul Scoles, of Ironwood Studios (Seattle), owned our Spectrosonics console before we did. During that time he purchased a Studer 16 track from Paul McCartney. He removed the Vari-speed knob from Pauls tape deck and installed it on the console. Later when he sold the tape deck, he forgot to remove the knob. So there it sits, to this day,on the far right hand side of the console. Yes, you can touch it. No extra charge!
We are the proud caretakers of a really wonderful recording console. It was custom built for Stax/Volt studios in Memphis (yep, Booker T, Otis, Cropper, etc), in about 1965. We don't actually know who used it and for what recordings, but we do know that it has a great sound and we like to have it and use it. It was built by Spectrasonics for Stax. It was purchased at auction when Stax went bankrupt, in the mid 70's, by Paul Scoles for his then 16 track Ironwood Studios . It was dismantled and stored in boxes when Ironwood went to 24 tracks. Ten years later, in a moment of divine inspiration, Paul donated the console to Egg, realizing what a great match it would be! We are forever indebted. It took a few thousand bucks, many, many days, and several cans of deoxidant, miles of solder, and some great tech work (Mr. Ed Brooks and Gary Parisi) to get it up and running. It was well worth the effort. We'll get a photo of the "Spectro" in here sometime soon.
Since we don't technically offer the service of mastering at Egg,(we can sequence, and edit, and EQ, and burn a CDR, but can't provide the PQ code documentation etc. needed by the manufacturing plants), we would like to highly recommend a company called Seattle Disc Mastering. It is owned and operated by Mr. Mark Guenther (former Egg engineer). SDM has a great state of the art set-up and Mark has a great ear and is 100% honest and on your side. Plus, if you mix to our analog Studer 1/2 track, SDM has a great Studer also, so you can transfer your mixes directly from the 1/2 track into the SDM System using his high end D/A converters. Very Nice!! You can call SDM at 206-368-9220 or click here for a cyber visit. Seattle Disc Mastering
We would also like to recommend using Realtime Inc. to broker the manufacturing end of your project. Either click on the link provided or Call Pip at 206-523-8050. He's great and, by the way, does all of our Popllama releases for us.
